Having Difficult Conversations

Saturday, November 21
9:00am (San Fran), 12:00pm (NYC), 5:00pm (London)
2 hours

Thanksgiving is coming fast, and we’re facing a lot of difficult conversations this year. This workshop will provide you a fresh perspective on conflict and a toolbox of practical skills that you can use in a pinch. The most important thing is what this isn’t: these tools are for building understanding, not changing minds.

This 2 hour workshop will cover the following:

  • Approaches to Conflict

  • Listening to Understand

  • Speaking to be Heard

  • Communication Toolkit

After the workshop, I will stay online for questions and discussion.

Will I have to participate?
This is an interactive workshop, and you will be assigned to breakout rooms where you will practice structured communication skills with other participants.

Who Am I?
I am an Assistant Professor at UCL School of Management where I teach negotiation and decision-making and a practicing mediator with Chicago Conflict Resolution Center. I began my career in 2008 as an AmeriCorps member and then staff member with Community Mediation Maryland, later completing a PhD in Communication at the University of Pennsylvania and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Kellogg School of Management. This workshop draws on over a decade experience practicing and teaching mediation, communication, and conflict resolution.
